In PTC’s speaking and listening skills development program, students are introduced to oral language development concepts that are relevant to their abilities. Students are given opportunities to practice using these skills in a range of ways from informal conversation, to more formal verbal presentations alongside practicing learning strategies such as problem solving through listening and speaking. Students are taught to distinguish between informal communication in a social environment and more formal, complex language, used to discuss abstract concepts. The more formal and complex oral language is emphasized to students for the development of successful schooling.

For reading skills development, students are introduced to strategies that improve their aptitude and understanding of graphical text that are relevant to their abilities. Students participate in daily passage studies, reading, and vocabulary exercises that challenge them and foster the development of reading comprehension, letter and word identification, grammar, writing and fluency. The exercises reinforce good reading habits which help students understand, connect to, and determine the importance of what they are reading.
With respect to writing skills development, students are introduced to writing and communication concepts that are relevant to their abilities. Students learn how to organize their knowledge and beliefs into convincing arguments, and to convey meaning through well-constructed text. They do this in stages and as they build new skills upon old. Spelling, vocabulary, grammar, and organization come together and grow together to help the student demonstrate more advanced writing in each stage.
